Ballady Al Mahboub

    Dear Urvishbhai
Under auspice of Vintage Veterans we shall screen Aawara on Sunday the 7th July.I asked Harishbhai whether original Arabic song of Ghar Aaya mera Pardesi is available with him.He said he has not got that song.
See the luck. After ten minutes he again phoned me that he had just received mail and the song is also sent.
    This is real coincident.
There is a story in Vikram Vaital
Four friends had to stay overnight in jungle. They decided that each one of them would guard for one quarter of the night.
First one was carpenter. With intention to pass the time he carved a wooden sculpture of a young dancer. The next friend was tailor. He saw the beautiful carving his friend had made. He made appropriate dress for dancer.
The third one was goldsmith. He made beautiful ornaments for “putli”.And the fourth one was “Tantrik”. He made her alive.

Such has happened with that song.
The tune of wonderful song – sung by legend Umm Kulthum in her vibrant voice was so beautiful that nobody could resist using that tune. The tune is such that it cannot be used partially.
Shankar Jaikisan did same thing which friends of carpenter did.
Mandolin and Dholak in Ghar aaya mera Pardesi added further melodious effect. The tune had become more vibrant.

I don’t consider it as chori. It is further beautification of original one. You may take it as tribute to the great legend diva Umm Kulthum.

Padharo mare des has been sung by many well-known singers. This song is such that no artist can resist having his contribution.
I have got seventeen versions of Que Sara Sara. There are still many more versions. The song and tune has been used in many languages – including in Hindi and Gujarati.
I most cordially invite you to be with us on Sunday the 7th September when we shall screen Aawara. This would be our first programme of our second year.
I invite you to be our Guest of Honour.

    Rohit Marfatia
