Well said. You have raised very pertinent point. I too was surprised to read this eight column headline this morning.

I have observed that some of the opinion builders, – analysts, professionals, writers and speakers – are less sensitive to issues.

I am sure your comments will help to educate them socially and politically.

    Warm regards

  2. Sorry Urvish but I beg to differ with your comment about "Black". I always thought "Black" was as acceptable and politically correct term as "Coloured" or "African American" as opposed to "Nigro" or even more demeaning "Nigger".

Just out of curiosity, googled news for "Black Obama" and found hundreds of news reports using this term. So perhaps your objection is slightly out of place :-)

  3. I am glad that you pointed this out. Black- nigger are politically in correct...and i always maintained that we indians tend to as racist, especially when it comes to people of AFrican origins reinforcing stereotypes....

check out nytimes.. best headline,, simple but evocative

  4. I m proud to say-I voted for Obama-My family voted for Obama-My daughter and many youngsters of my family volunteered for his campaign.Tears were rolling from my eyes when I was listening to his speech--
Now, "African American" is the proper term to address so called Blacks or Colored or Negro-
Obama could not have achieved without white votes--So we can say Election was not based on race. In my view he is not a Black president-He is not a Muslim president--He is the American president--He knows the hardship--He does not have oil business--Any way--Salute to UrvishKumar for pointing out at the grave mistak-- We,Indians are the most reciest people on earth-That is my opinion.

  5. Some observations...

It is too early to say that 'the race ends with historic win' (TOI, Ahm headline!). Looking at the numbers, out of total white voters only 43 voted for him and 55 voted for Mccain. He was -12% with the white voters but hugely popular with African-americans, hispanics and asians. On top of that, within whites he was still -5% with the age group below 29 and -26% with age group above 29. He was more popular with the young, the women and the low-income groups in general. He was not really popular with the 30 plus white male voters. What does it say? The divide in America is deep-rooted. Winning an election is not going to change it yet.

Secondly, Why there is so much of talk about him being 'black' per say. Why cant we look at people without giving them a label based on their gender, race, caste, community, country? Obama was very clear in his speech to reject such categories. And it was McCain who said, ' I understand that it is a big day for african-americans today'.

    Nice postings, Urvishbhai!

I'm really satisfied for the righteous comment on the headline written by DB on Obama''s
victory. Your rational thinking makes you a distinguished personality in the world of
    newspapers.

Over-killing coverage by Obama enthused can be seen in your blog also! I visited your blog after a long break and was surprised to see this HAPPENING. Look, I'm the 9th commentor, so in a way it proves that U R right N I'm wrong. But I can't understand this Indian interest in American Obama. Papers, perticularly our 'page-rich' TOI, reorted on it filling 5/6 pages daily. My guess is nobody read beyond some headlines, which is the right proportion of attention it deserved.
It will be interesting to compare our own Mayawati being proposed as the possible PM in next election, and how these same media and Obama enthseds respond! Urvish, can U speculate on this situation and write a humour piece in you distinctive style?
