‘મારૂં જીવન એ જ મારી વાણી’ અંગ્રેજીમાં

નારાયણભાઇ દેસાઇએ ચાર ભાગમાં લખેલું ગાંધીજીનું જીવનચરિત્ર ‘મારૂં જીવન એ જ મારી વાણી’ ટૂંક સમયમાં- મોટે ભાગે આગામી ૨ ઓક્ટોબરના દિવસે- અંગ્રેજીમાં પ્રસિદ્ધ થશે. અંગ્રેજી ચરિત્રનું નામ છેઃ ‘માય લાઇફ ઇઝ માય મેસેજ’. ગુજરાતી પુસ્તકનું અંગ્રેજીમાં અનુસર્જન કરનાર છે ત્રિદીપ સુહૃદ. અભ્યાસી વિદ્વાન તરીકે જાણીતા ત્રિદીપભાઇ સમાજજીવન અને રાજકારણથી માંડીને ગુજરાતની-દેશની પરંપરાઓ જેવા અનેક વિષયો પર ઊંડો અભ્યાસ ધરાવે છે અને ધીરૂભાઇ અંબાણી ઇન્સ્ટિટ્યુટ (ગાંધીનગર)માં ભણાવે છે.

નારાયણભાઇના ગાંધીચરિત્રને વધાવનારા પ્રેમીઓ પાસેથી સાંભળવા મળતો પુસ્તકમાં રહી ગયેલી ભૂલો અંગેનો કચવાટ પણ અંગ્રેજી આવૃત્તિમાં મહદ્ અંશે દૂર થઇ જશે. તેમાં ઇયાન બુરુમાની નવલકથા ‘પ્લેઈંગ ધ ફીલ્ડ’ના વર્ણનને ઇતિહાસ માની બેસીને, તેના આધારે ગાંધીબાપા જામ રણજિતસિંહ સાથે ક્રિકેટ રમ્યા હોવાની ગુણવંત શાહે પ્રચલિત બનાવેલી વાયકાનો પણ સમાવેશ થતો હોવાનું ત્રિદીપભાઇ જણાવે છે.

આવું મહાકાર્ય ધીરજપૂર્વક કરવા બદલ ત્રિદીપભાઇને અભિનંદન ! સાથોસાથ, આવાં કામ કરવાનું તે ચાલુ રાખે એવી સ્વાર્થી અપેક્ષા પણ ખરી!

  1. Thanks for bringing such a wonderful person's work before people so more peopel can read it.
    Reg faulty presentation of famous people (mostly rumors) even by so called famous people is very common.

    To cut out such garbage from the reading requires reader's common sence and thinking which comes from more reading.

  2. just out of curiosity, i searched for ian buruma's novel PLAYING THE FIELD on google and found that the correct name of the novel is PLAYING THE GAME.

    someone should correct the slip committed in the journalistic hate - urvish or gunavant shah, of course after confirmation.

    this apart, the trinity of gandhiji and the welknown gandhians narayan deasai and tridip suhrid would certainly make the opus 'must read'. suhrid has done a wonderful job in translating ganesh devy's 'after amnesia' and this being the transcreation and not translation, readers would eagerly look forward to this joint venture.

    A book on Gandhi so costly !!! Probably they should have consulted Mahenda Meghani on how to dissiminate good literature in mass at affordable cost.
