Yes, I have had that fruit in my childhood in Ahmedabad about 15 years ago so it's not new. Even I heard the name as 'Babupocha' but even than I thought that it must be wrong. I think 'Babogosha' makes more sense.

  12. happy to know the real name: babugosha. Even got a reference from 'Calcutta no chamtakar' (Manu Gandhi, 1959,Navjivan'.
Manuben has noted "Bapu's chief diet was fruit. The babugosha, a speciality of Kashmir, resembles the guava; it is very sweet and soft." (diary of 2-8-47)

  13. who says investigative journalism can confine itself to unearthing scandals and rackets only?

a soft-spongy fruit identified variously as
    'green pear', 'european pear',
'apple specie', 'jamrukh like', 'gulab', 'babupocha or babubocha' can turn out to be bapu's 'babughosha' !

this seemingly simple and curious post indeed gives a much needed relief from the 'shah-modi-kothari' troica that generated more than 76 comments-counter comments bordering on farce.
